IT’S LONDON MARATHON TIME AGAIN
Alan Fernandes, Acting Director of the Jesuit Missions Office, asks for your prayers and support for our team.
THE 2006 LONDON MARATHON
On Sunday 23rd April, the Jesuit Missions team will be taking part in the 2006 Flora London Marathon and will be running a distance of 26.6 miles. Amongst the runners are students and teachers from our schools, volunteers and a number of Jesuits from the UK and overseas. All of them have one goal in mind - to raise as much money as they can for projects that are close to their hearts, either through their work, or their personal experience.
With the continuing problems of displaced people in Zimbabwe, the Jesuits are focusing their attention on obtaining food supplies in bulk for those who have lost their homes and livelihoods. At present, we may not hear much about Zimbabwe in the media but quietly the work of the Jesuits continues, providing those living in temporary shelters with moral, spiritual and practical support.
In the past year, many Jesuit schools in the UK have twinned with schools and projects overseas. This year students and staff from many of the colleges will be fundraising for their twinned projects worldwide.
2006 LONDON MARATHON RUNNERS
Simon Thiongo SJ, Rampeoane Hlobo SJ, Bruce Cheeseman, Mark Lyon, Amy Crouch, George Mercer, Nicholas Crouch, Tony Leonard, Paul O’Reilly SJ, Tallan Gill, Thomas Leonard, David Hurst, Aryn Klich, Richard Laws, Dan Smith, Laurence McKell, Gerard Mortimer, Paul Wilson, Lorraine Mathews, Susan Fisher, Dominic Tomuseni SJ, Helen Johnson, Paul Warrilow, Mark Ventom, John Ader, Stephen Clegg SJ, Stuart Mills, Declan Gleeson, Tim Warner, Ross Hutchinson, Robert Parkinson, Michael Connolly, Alex Holbourn, Kat Johnson, Jonathan Tate and Petur Einarsson.
The Marathon takes place on the day after the Jesuit Jubilee Mass at Farm Street Church (22nd April) and so Jesuits and friends, who would not normally be in London on that day, will be cheering along our Jesuit Mission Team.
